Jamie McClen ia another product of the Newcastle United youth ranks. The midfielder and is another bright young prospect at the club. McClen made is debut for Newcastle against Tottenham in 1999 for then Newcastle boss Ruud Gullit.
He pushed for a place in 1999-00 when Sir Bobby Robson took over and played many games at the start of the Robson regieme. He was pushed down the pecking order though at Toon and during 2000/01 he had a loan spell at Motherwell. His good form in the Reserve team though did the Geordie the world of good though and again pushed for a first team place in 2001-02.
McClen scored his first goal for United in the FA Cup win at Peterborough in January 2002, which was his first starting appearance of the season after an injury crisis at the Toon. He went on to make another five appearences in the League and FA Cup only for a calf injury to halt his progress in the side and end his 2001/02 season early.
Unfortuantly for McClen, he never got another real chance to shine for the Magpies the following season and has been forced down the list at Unitd with Jermaine Jenas, Darren Ambrose and Lee Bowyer all coming into the squad ahead of him, and was transfer listed in June 2003. McClen has said that he should take an oppotunity to leave if one comes to gain a first-team spot, as it certainly doesn't look like he'll get his place in the eleven back.
