Wayne Quinn arrived at Newcastle from Sheffield United in January 2001 on a loan transfer until February 2001, and he impressed Sir Bobby Robson and the Newcastle fans and was given a permanent deal at the Toon.
He made over 100 appearances for the Blades scoring 4 goals up until end of 1999/2000 season. Quinn almost joined United in 1998 only to fail a medical when Kenny Dalglish wanted to bring him to St James' Park, but he carried on his impressive form and Robson eventually signed him.
He made his Magpies debut against Coventry three days after signing and went on to make 15 appearances up until the end of 2000-01.
Quinn opened his Magpies account when he scored against Sporting Lokeren in the Intertoto Cup drubbing of the Belguims 4-0 away. He lost his place in the side after though and never won it back. He went on loan to Sheffield United again in January 2003, but after the Blades admitted they couldn't afford to have him, Quinn was slapped on the transfer list by Sir Bobby Robson in June.
