Jermaine Jenas is Newcastle's hottest young prospect and proved it by winning the PFA Young Player of the Year in his first full season at United. Jenas signed for Toon in February 2002 from Nottingham Forest for £5.5m and made his debut aged 18.
Nottingham born Jenas has represented England at all levels, but however because of his rapid progress through the ranks, he hasn't won many caps at each level, but made his debut for the Three Lions in February 2003 against Australia at Upton Park and impressed Sven Goran Eriksson by setting up England's goal in the 3-1 defeat.
Jenas made his debut for Forest as a 17-year-old in 2000-01 against Wolves in the FA Cup and made his league debut the following week against Crystal Palace. Prior to his transfer he made 33 appearances for Forest, scoring 4 goals. He made his Newcastle debut against Southampton a couple of weeks after signing, and scored his first United goal against Wolves in the FA Cup, and followed that up with a stunning strike against West Ham the next week.
He is an elegant, athletic midfielder, capable also of playing at the back, and has an amazing energy level, he covers around six miles ina game according to Premiership statistics, and he looks a great prospect for the future, and he's only currently 20! If he keeps his feet on the ground and carries on the way he's going, Jenas can become one of the best midfielders in Europe and hopefully help the Magpies win a trophy in the next couple of seasons.
